I love MyBlogLog because apart from the widget, you can also check the statistic of your visitor. The display is simple and easy to understand. One of the best known platforms of blogger community for efficient blog-tracking and social networking.

The exact reasons for pulling off this service are unknown but this seems to be a well thought of move from Yahoo! to recommend and redirect its MyBlogLog users to the uprising and new Yahoo! Pulse.

So I am happy to announce that after all, SurveyHead is indeed a legit survey site. It is not a scam and I have gotten paid. Surveyhead.com is another survey site that promises to award you for doing OTX surveys.

I've been a member of surveyhead for about a year. Next up I Managed to get up enough to cash out at 10 dollars they processed this pretty quickly changed from requested to confirmed and even managed to get the payment in paypal a couple days after that.

SurveyHead is definitely not a scam – I belong through one of their additional sites, EDU Research Group, and I really like them. Just be prepared to wait for your online money. BUT, it will come, just not in the 4 weeks they promise and don’t expect an email response, you won’t get one. (At least I never have.

Yes they are slow to pay. Yes they do not respond to those types of questions or complaints. I also have some survey payments pending from several months ago. But, I have cashed out once for almost $10 and waiting for another cash out request to be confirmed for $31. So, you can make some online money if you’re patient and not in a big hurry.

Most of my business comes from Google searches, so it's not good news that my site has just vanished from the results. It used to come out high in some searches, now it doesn't appear at all. It used to have a high PageRank too, now it has none.

Although I see some changes in PageRank on few blogs but surprisingly majorities were not affected. Sad enough I’m one of the minorities with the bad news. I have almost 30 blogs, But im lost PR for 4 blog (already generated very good money from pay per review). My Google PageRank drop from PR4 to PR0 its a bad news (im working hard for this high PR). This blog also loss their PR3 to zero....erggghhh

It’s clear there has been another Google Page Rank Update over the last few days. The cut - off for the last pages to acquire Page Rank seems to be the last week in December 2007. I don’t normally agree a PR update is in progress until I see it on sites I monitor - and it is clearly visible. Google choose a last day of 2008 to update it. This is very intersting date.

My First Google Adsense Cheque

Google Adsense is one of the popular way of monetizing the blog. My first Google AdSense cheque finally arrived yesterday. More than enough to pay for my hosting for one year. I was able to make just $103.78. But, making money from a blog goes slowly and steadily.

Keyword density is an indicator of the number of times the selected keyword appears in the web page. But mind you, keywords shouldn’t be over used, but should be just sufficient enough to appear at important places. If you repeat your keywords with every other word on every line, then your site will probably be rejected as an artificial site or spam site. Keyword density is always expressed as a percentage of the total word content on a given web page. Suppose you have 100 words on your webpage (not including HMTL code used for writing the web page), and you use a certain keyword for five times in the content.

The keyword density on that page is got by simply dividing the total number of keywords, by the total number of words that appear on your web page. So here it is 5 divided by 100 = .05. Because keyword density is a percentage of the total word count on the page, multiply the above by 100, that is 0.05 x 100 = 5%

The accepted standard for a keyword density is between 3% and 5%, to get recognized by the search engines and you should never exceed it. Remember, that this rule applies to every page on your site. It also applies to not just to one keyword but also a set of keywords that relates to a different product or service. The keyword density should always be between 3% and 5%.

Simple steps to check the density:

* Copy and paste the content from an individual web page into a word-processing software program like Word or Word Perfect.

* Go to the ‘Edit’ menu and click ‘Select All’. Now go to the ‘Tools’ menu and select ‘Word Count’. Write down the total number of words in the page.

* Now select the ‘Find’ function on the ‘Edit’ menu. Go to the ‘Replace’ tab and type in the keyword you want to find. ‘Replace’ that word with the same word, so you don’t change the text.

* When you complete the replace function, the system will provide a count of the words you replaced. That gives the number of times you have used the keyword in that page.

Using the total word count for the page and the total number of keywords you can now calculate the keyword density.

As you roam the blogosphere you read some posts, you find one that intresting you so much that you have to go to your blog and write a post about it.

Naturally you will put a link to the original post somewhere in your post. From this point you have two ways of letting the original poster know about your post:

Sending A Pingback -Under Options/Discussion you will find a check box for "Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article (slows down posting.)" and another for "Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and track-backs.)" - check the second one so that you know if other’s are writing about you. If you check the first one then when you publish the post WordPress will go through your post looking for any external links. If it finds any it will send your link to the original blog.

Sending A Trackback - This will also need the second box to be checked and it involves a little more work. At the original post, scroll down to the comment area and just before the comment box you will find a trackback link. In Wordpress this is usually the post’s URL with /trackback/ appended to it. Anyway, right-click the link and copy it. Then go to your post in edit mode, at the bottom you will find a Trackback box where you can now paste the trackback URL. If there is more than one you can separate them with a space. Then you can Publish the post. WordPress will then go through the list of track-backs, sending a quote from your post wrapped in a link to the original post where it appears in the comment area. This enables a conversation to go on between the blogs with a possible cross-over of each blog’s visitors so both blogs benefit.

If you are the lazy type the Pingback is a quick and dirty way of notifying other blogs, but the Trackback is superior because it sends part of your post to the other blog. This allows the author AND visitors to read a bit and then get tempted to go to your blog to read the full post where you have a better opportunity to get them to subscribe and become a regular visitor.

How to Get Back-links?

First of all a back-link is a link from, for example, a blog to your blog. Google loves back-links, they are the backbone of PR. The back-links can be gotten from:

Posts: A blogger writes about another blogger’s post or reviews a blog.
Blogrolls: Another blogger puts a link to your blog in their blogroll.
Comments: You write a comment on another blog.
Plugins: Plugins like Top Commentator will have a link to other’s blogs.

Posts And Blogrolls - For Posts and Blogrolls there are three ways you can get that back-link.

By the random generosity of other bloggers. Some bloggers will add other bloggers to the blogroll because they either like or aspire to become like the linked blogger. Some bloggers will write link-love posts, usually on a regular basis, others will write a review of someones blog.

By reciprocal linking either on the Blogroll or via posts. This involves work on your part. You have to find blogs that are similar to yours and network with the owners by:

Writing a post that includes them.
Stumble their posts.
Comment frequently on their blog.
Be a sponsor in their competition.

Once you have appeared on their radar then you can ask/suggest a link trade. The best kind of back-link is one that is in context, in other words not just a link like on a Blogroll, but one that is in a post, I call this Deep linking, that post was about comments but the principal is the same for posts. Also if your link is in a post it will probably be there for ever, if it’s on a Blogroll, it could disappear when the theme is changed.

By buying links. This use to work, but Google now takes a stern view of paid links both in giving and receiving them. Lots of site lost some or all of their PR last December when Google did a PageRank update. However, there are Google-friendly ways of buying links. One such method is via Scratchback. You tip a site with a minimal amount of cash and you get a link to your site with whatever text you want.

Comments

Comments require that you go out and read posts and then write comments in response to them. There is a certain behavior that is expected.

Do not spam a blog with your comments.
Do not just type "Nice post" or similar, try to add to the conversation. Sometimes I find the comments take on a life of their own and are more interesting than the post.
You do not need to add a link to your site as a signature, by making a comment you automatically get a link.

Don’t worry about the blog’s PR, if it’s a decent blog it will get PR in time. Much like this blog had zero PR, people commented here and now they have PR3 back-links. Also not to worried if the blog is nofollow or dofollow, because Google still sees both kinds of back-link.

Plugins

This type are usually fleeting as they are normally updated once a month. So in the case of the Top Commentator, for it to be useful as a back-link source you would have to consistently comment at a particular blog AND be one of the top commentators so that you stay in the list. On some low traffic blogs this might be manageable, but seriously, it’s too much like work for such little return.

Using meta tags as an online marketing strategy

A meta tag is an HTML tag that gives information about the content of a Web page, such as what HTML specifications a Web page follows or description of a Web page's content. A meta tag, however, does not always affect how a Web page is displayed on a browser. For online marketing, the most common uses for meta tags are the keyword, description, and robots exclusion attributes.

One of the most common myths about meta tags is that they are the "secret ingredient" to obtaining optimal search engine rankings. In fact, only some major search engines use meta-tag content for relevancy. Some search engines use meta-tag content when they display the results of a search query. And some search engines (and almost all directories) do not use meta-tag content at all. Google and Microsoft ignore keyword metatags completely for purpose of displaying search results. Yahoo and Ask use keyword metatags for retrieval. This means that these engines index the words in the keyword metatags and will show the page as a search result if there is a keyword match.

When you write a Web document, you can get by without META tags if you have to. You can simply leave your <HEAD> section blank (except for the TITLE) and go straight for the content, like this:

When writing meta-tag content, spend more time writing a good description than writing a keyword list. In terms of online marketing, the description is more important than the keywords list. Most people write a title, and then Meta tags. I, prefer to write the description (Meta tag) first. There’s a reason for this, it’s to ensure you have a clear idea of what you want to emphasize about your site.

Write one or two sentences that describes what your site is all about. Although you can include more than one aspect of your site, the primary impression that a reader gets should be the main idea that you wrote. Remembering the idea and word that I came up with earlier,

Things to consider when writing meta-tag content:

• You should use your keyword or phrase two to three times in your description.
• Try to keep it as short as you can.
• Don’t say that you’re the “best,” the “biggest”, etc. This means nothing to users.
• Don’t use exclamation points–ever.
• If you can live without a word, don’t use it.

Since some major search engines use meta-tag descriptions when displaying the results of a search query, it's important to write a meta-tag description that accomplishes two things:

Helping to obtain a good search engine ranking in the search engines that use meta-tags for relevancy, and

Eliciting a "call-to-action," ( encouraging people to click on the link to your Web site.)

Many so-called search engine optimization specialists use the list of keywords in the meta-tag description. Not only is this search engine optimization strategy borderline "spam," it is also a poor way of encouraging visitors to click on the link to your site.

Many People tend to type in the plural version of a word more than they type in the singular version of a word in search engine queries. For that reason, we tend to emphasize the plural version of a word in the meta-tags.

When you analyze your site statistics to see which variations of your keywords and keyword phrases people are using to find your Web site, optimize your Web pages for most commonly used keywords.

The meta-tag keywords attribute

When selecting words to place in the meta-tag keywords attribute, you must select keywords that accurately reflect the content of the Web page. If a word appears in your meta-tags that does not appear in your main body content, then your Web page will very likely receive a spam penalty from the search engines, possibly getting your Web site permanently removed from the search engine databases.

When selecting keywords and keyword phrases for this meta-tag attribute, consider the following variations:

Singular vs. plural : When creating your keywords list, place the version of the keyword that your site visitors use the most at the beginning of your keyword list.

Uppercase vs. lowercase : Most search engines do not use case sensitivity as an element of their algorithms. Thus, using all versions (all uppercase, all lowercase, initial capitalization) of keywords and keyword phrases is probably a waste of time and can result in a spam penalty for keyword stacking. Consider this as well: when people type in words and phrases in a search engine query, they tend to type words very quickly. The quickest way to type in words is not to use any capitalization.

Commas vs. no commas : It makes no difference to the search engines that use the meta-tag keywords attribute whether or not you use commas or spaces to separate your keywords and keyword phrases. If it is easier for you to view your keyword phrases with commas, then use them. Using commas will not affect your Web page's relevancy.

Misspelled keywords : Since some keywords are commonly misspelled (such as the word "millennium"), you might want to put a misspelled keyword in your meta-tags. However, if that misspelled word does not appear in your main body text, this strategy is a waste of time. Search engines use both keyword frequency and keyword placement in their algorithms. If you are putting a misspelled keyword in only one place (i.e., your meta-tag keywords attribute), it's not helping your Web page's relevancy because the keyword concentration for that one word is practically non-existent.

Repeating keyword : You shouldn’t use the same word more than three times (or the search engines will penalize you). Most search engines have rules against META tag "spamming," which means you shouldn't try to overwhelm a search engine by repeating the same keyword or phrase over and over again. The best way to handle this is to keep your keywords and description short and concise, and avoid repetition. Don’t include helper words like “and” or “with.”.

HTML code for the meta-tag robots attribute

he Robots META Tag is meant to provide users who cannot upload or control the /robots.txt file at their websites, with a last chance to keep their content out of search engine indexes and services. If you do not wish a search engine spider to index the content of a specific Web page, then you can use the meta-tag robots exclusion attribute to accomplish this.

The following shows the proper HTML coding for this meta-tag:

If this meta tag is missing, or if there is no content, or the robot terms are not specified, then the robot terms will be assumed to be "index, follow" (e.g. "all"). If the keyword all is found in the robots terms list it overrides all other values. That is, a robots terms that is "nofollow, all, noindex, nofollow", would effectively be "all".

If the robots terms contains contradictory information (e.g. "follow, nofollow, follow") then the robot is free to do whatever it wishes with regard to the behavior being addressed (in this case the follow behavior).

Notes: Not all search engines will honor this type of meta-tag.

The meta-tag revisit attribute

Many people mistakenly believe that they can instruct the search engine spiders to revisit their sites within a specified amount of time. In fact, we often recommend quizzing potential search engine optimization companies on the use of this meta-tag attribute. If they say that this tag works, don't hire them.

The meta-tag refresh attribute

Many Web site designers use the meta-tag refresh attribute as a means of animation. Other sites that have content that needs to be updated in real time, such as a site that displays sports scores or stock prices, might use this attribute.

Unfortunately, most people who use the meta-tag refresh attribute are spammers who want search engines to index one Web page (for relevancy) and to display another Web page. Because of these spammers, the majority of the search engines consider the use of this attribute spam.

So if you want to use animation on your site, it would be best to create an animated gif instead of using this tag. As for the sites that must use this tag for real-time display, it is best to contact the search engine companies directly so that your URL does not receive a spam penalty.

5. Don't Encouraging or "beg for clicks" or provide any incentive for clicking on your Google AdSense ads. In order to ensure a good experience for users and advertisers, your may not request that users click the ads on their sites or rely on deceptive implementation methods to obtain clicks.

6. Never click on the ads running on your own site, even if you are genuinely interested in the product or service and are thinking of buying it!
